I see you are located on my side of town ( West ).
One of my favorite areas is down Agua Caliente Road. There are lots of trails that cut off the road and meador through the desert. In fact, you can go from Agua Caliente Road all the way to 95 and the Kofa Mountains. You can go to the old Agua Caliente Resort ( lotds of history, John Wayne and Johnny Cash both wanted to buy this place ) and cemetary. The Oatman Massacre site and location where they found the bodies. ( nice grave memorial is there) A bit farther over and you can see the Painted Rocks. On Agua Caliente Road you can stop off at 4th Of July Butte and do a little rock hounding or simply explore all the mines in the area. I have found several mines that are in pristine condition with no modern garbage around them. One had 3 grave sites on the cliff beside it. And of course you shouldn't miss Sundad. Interesting place with a deep mine. Be careful, most of the mines have no barrier and some are hard to see at first. Here is my photo album of the area. I think it will give you a good idea of what tio expect. http://community.webshots.com/user/U...host=community Look for the albums title with Agua caliente, Oatmans, Sundad |

- my favorite drive in the state is kinda long one... take the 87 to payson, keep going up past pine and strawberry, make a right on the rim-road (FR-300) and follow the gravel rim road all the way to the 260, then take a right on the 260 and back to payson for dinner and then back to phoenix. if if you only do a portion of the drive, it's nice! http://www.2coollizards.com/rim_rd/mogollon_rim_rd.html
- another recommendation would be to the top of 4-peaks road and hike around some and then come back down the back side. - there's also apache trail out past apache junction |

Castle Hot Springs Road is a nice little jaunt, and it goes past the old Castle Hot Springs Resort. The trail starts just past Lake Pleasant and ends over by the junction of Hwy. 74 and Hwy. 60, near Wickenburg.

Thank you for the ideas! All good ones. Heading out in the morning with the best pit crew in town. Keep you posted on where we end up.
