they are too low. they are ballsey, but my MPG isn't good, i think i would be fine with 4.92 or whatever the next step down is on the JK.

wouldn't make enough difference to bother with the cost of changing them though (it's what they came with from there previous owner).

actually i briefly had 4.56 with the 35's on my old axles, and it wasn't even that bad - but on the long grade up to flag with it loaded down, it was a little sluggy for my heavy foot

12mpg average, hardly any better on freeway... but hardly any worse on the trail either.

nothing new with the jeep lately - 113* outside is jut too hot for this guy! ordered some LED tail-light bulbs since i keep getting a blown brakelight bulb. need to lube everything in the next couple weeks to get ready for colorado.

Diane sent me these couple pics with my rig from Hole-in-the-Rock last year...

4.88's would bring you back to stock with 35"s. I would guess that you would not see much better in mileage with 4.88's. it makes like 200 rpm difference I would guess. you may see 13 to 15mpg. so your correct in what you deduced - it wouldnt be worth changing.

jeep JKs have not much in the way of power compared to your v8. I know I drive both the JK and WJ. I love the WJ power. that is why I started to build that. only reason I wish I contiued with that. 5:13's are welcomed for 35's most jk owners feel. I am likely to run that with my 37's. never been in a JK regeared yet. and we run a 4:1 transfer case.... LOL i dont mind stock gears 4.10's with my 37's due to the low transfercase. on highway I cant use overdrive unless I have a tail wind. if i had a hemi it may be worth or ok to use 4.10's. but I would prefer 4.56's I think.

Hey Kris, I stuck with 4:10's with mine and it's fine but if I were to run 35's I'd probably go with 4:88's. 5:13's would be sweet for more of a wheelers than daily driver. My .02. When does ORP have another hole in the rock trip planned? I'd love to go. Chad.

ive got 4.56 gears in my WJ with 35's, and i get 12 mpg too. the 4.7 HO motor.. so i'd stick with what you have. The only problem with my gears is i had zero driveshaft vibes when they were stock, but with the 4.56's i get vibes at about 70 to 80 mph.. right in the spot you want to drive at for traveling.. so that was a bummer. Nothing else changed.

alot changed at the same time for besides the gearing, but that's when the bad vibes started. i've still yet to purchase a double-double-cardan front shaft to see if that helps any.

this morning i threw some "12 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower" 1157 red LED bulbs into my funky tail lights for the combo brake/running light.
http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm

i've tried several other LED bulbs, including the 63 LED and others, but my housings don't have much diffusion in them and therefore need a really bright bulb to be seen well. these are the first ones i've tried that are actually brighter than an incandescent bulb. highly recommended, even at the steep price.

i also have had the 7 Watt 1156 version in white for my reverse lights for a while now (got them before they had these new ones) and they are great as well. if i get to camp late, i can turn off the jeep, pull the e-brake, throw it in reverse and it'll light up a pretty big area enough to setup a tent by, but without blinding anyone else that might already be sleeping. i keep meaning to throw a switch on them so that i can trigger them anytime.
