on the door locks, i bet you have a bad wire in that bundle going between the door and the sill... it was a common problem on the WJ's. the insulation wouldn't split so it looks fine from the outside, but the copper inside would break after all the opening and closing for years.

i think it could even be the bundle on the driver's side instead of the passenger, because of how the door look brain works. next time it won't lock, try jiggling those wire bundles on each side while pressing the button.

i'm glad you got the dakota speed thing seemingly fixed. sorry if there was a bad connection since i was probably the one that crimped it!

I ask because I had idle issues at Cinders 2 years ago, you were riding with me, mine idled very low and would stall if I did not keep my foot on the gas.
My fix here & here.

Must be a Jeep thing
No, not really like that, just some weird idling when upon start after looking at some mines. Mine never seemed like it wouldn't stay running or stalling. I thought of that time at the cinders though!

I'm going to do a trail report as soon as I get a chance, but in the meantime, here's a Clifford report. He performed flawlessly on the trail, and survived the trip to Kingman to run Candy A$$ with only a little carnage. There are lots of scratches on the cage, fenders and sliders, and the rear driveshaft is gouged and the boot is ripped off. Looking at it, G realizes he needs to have it lengthened.

During the trip we started to hear the distinct tappity-tap of exhaust leak from the manifold. This is on it's way to our house as we speak:

We thought we were going to miss the trail ride Monday morning! We were set to go when we found out Clifford wouldn't start. When you turned the key you could hear all the accessories come on and the fuel pump, but when you turned the key to start nothing happened. I started asking mechanically oriented friends on facebook for ideas, thinking it was because it was so cold, when I heard the Jeep start. George said he tried leaning in from the passenger side and turning the key and it worked. Weird, I know. So we didn't turn the Jeep off all day long while we were on the trail for fear we wouldn't get it started again. A guy there familiar with Jeep ignition showed us where it's located and how to change it, but the Jeep NEVER DID IT AGAIN. I'll let you know if the story develops.

Oh man that header is gonna be awesome. I hear good things.

Question, do you guys run a stock mid pipe? Does it have that crush?

Considering changing out my mid-pipe or at least enlarging that section of the pipe with a pipe expander for better flow.

Hi Jason, we're running 2" (I think) pipe all the way back. It was upgraded from the stock but didn't notice any power gains.

I enlarged to about 60mm using a carbide bit.

Poor Clifford. I accidentally closed the garage door when the lift gate was open the other day. Popped off the Jeep emblem (luckily it's still in one piece) and broke the plastic lock surround/grabby thing. Also made a dent on the inside of the garage door. :*(

I'm lucky G is handy at fixing stuff, looks like he's got this one figured out.

i backed into the recycle can in the WJ years ago and it left a nice dent in the rear lift-gate. every time i would close the hatch it would stare at me and remind me of my stupid-moment

Clifford says I can see! We broke a headlight on a recent road trip, so instead of just replacing it we got a new set of LED headlights and George installed them today. Now we have daytime running lights - bonus! They're super bright, no doubt much brighter than the old ones. Now we just need to find a place to adjust them properly.
