Parts of AZ I had not seen before this trip. Slots were my favorite! Thank you Chris and Sarah for organizing this fun run.

a few of us took Friday off before the main trip and headed into the area from the south-east corner of the lake.

the head of the lake is brushy and route finding is a little difficult. there's a ton of "moondust" (silt) that billows up into huge clouds even when moving slowly.

G & D and myself ran across this old buried bus several years ago for the first time. Tim (Curly) posted a photo of it recently on a Facebook group and someone there remembered seeing it over 50 years ago!

just before we hit camp Friday evening, Chris noticed Scott somethin' danglin'.

George was quick to the rescue with a replacement bolt and smart assery!

the next morning Chris & Sarah got up early to go meet the main group in Wikieup, while the rest of us had coffee

once the main group came rolling in, we all followed our fearless leader Chris over towards the slot canyon.

tight fit in a couple places.

then we headed to a cabin, that though no-where near the lake, had a boat!

their guest house was a love-shack with a gorgeous chandelier and comfy looking mattress.

as we got closer to crossing the Bill Williams river, it looked more and more like we'd see real rain.

the gas pipeline trail heading south to the river is quite a roller-coaster ride.

there was just enough rain to cut down on some of that moondust as we crossed the river. the terrain around the crossing is right out of some future post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie.

we made it to Swansea, but our desired camp site was taken. it also seemed certain we'd get showers overnight, and so a few people punked out and headed home.

the rest of us backtracked just outside of town to a nice flat-ish spot and setup camp. fortunately it only sprinkled a bit while the campfire was going, and even overnight it never rained enough to fully wash the dust off the rigs.

in the morning the more ominous clouds lifted and we took a little time to explore Swansea.

afterwards we headed out towards Parker, stopping to explore the Vampire Mine.

there were a bunch of adits, but none that we found went in more than maybe 30 feet.

most everyone else headed for the Desert Bar up near Parker. i went ahead and pulled over to air up after we hit some pavement, then fueled up in the edge of Parker and headed towards home - only stopping briefly for lunch in wash near Hope, Solome, Wenden or one of those little towns along that strip of the 60.
