Here's a few from the trail ride on Friday. We met up with the group at Carrizo Badlands Overlook, and from there we took Canyon Sin Nombre to visit Diablo Dropoff & Mud Caves at Arroyo Tapiado.

On Saturday G & I went hiking in Blair Valley @ Anza Borrego while the rest of the group went wheeling. We did each of the 3 hiking trails there: Marshall South Home, Morteros, and the Pictographs trails.
All my pictures from the day here: Hiking at Anza Borrego The Marshall South home was my favorite place out there. The hike wasn't difficult, but it was the hardest of the 3 because of the elevation change and the rocky terrain. The trail is only about a mile each way, and goes to the top of a ridge where the homestead was built in a wide flat space among the rocks. Not much remains except his water catchment system and a few walls. There's an old picture of the home on the hiking kiosk sign Halfway up we could see back to our camping spot in Blair Valley Lots of oddly shaped rocks in the area Our first view of the homestead Water containment structure Water heater? It was gorgeous up there Sundial Overview of the homestead shows the water catch in the foreground, and storage right behind me in the picture. The few remains are seen behind the water saving structure. A pictograph along the Mortero trail Pictographs along the Pictograph trail Expecting to see more pictographs, we continued down the Pictograph trail to the end of this little valley. We didn't find anymore pictographs, but we did come to a vertical drop-off and this amazing overlook. You can see S2 (the paved road we'd driven the day before) and a community of Agua Caliente Hot Springs in the background.

Sunday George and I took a scenic drive on the way home. We drove around to the eastern side of the Salton Sea and checked out Salvation Mountain, Slab City, and several Salton Sea stops.
Here's a link to all my pictures from the day: Slab City Salton Sea Pics Salvation Mountain is on the outskirts of Slab City. It's a pretty popular tourist attraction judging by our visit. As you can see it's huge and colorful! This is the bar at Slab City. January (daughter) told me she read once that some high school held their prom there one year! :O Places at Slab City ranged from a fairly new looking travel trailer in a clean fenced in yard, to hovels of scrap materials and cloth leaving you to wonder how people can live that way. There's a Internet Café, Hostel, Home for Abandoned Teddy Bears, and a library. Some people are using solar and hauling water. This guy had a couple armed mannequins posing as guards on his roof: Salton Sea doesn't stink until you get right next to the water, and then it's horrendously stinky!! But it is curiously scenic in an 'abandoned places' kind of way. There's very little evidence of the popular boating destination it was when my parents used to water ski there during the 50's.

We left a couple days before everyone else so George could conquer the Goat Canyon Trestle trek on his bike. I posted a separate picture thread in the Human Powered section, here's a link: https://offroadpassport.com/forum/sh...0559#post50559
