She's good looking... traitor... (Sarah named her that) In all seriousness, I can understand why you bought her. It is nice having a whole bunch less to worry about, like longevity. Looking forward to many camping trips! Now let's go get some stripes on her!

theksmith, very very nice gunmetal color on the new 16' Rubi. Looking forward to seeing your mod creativity going forward.

I'm kind of sad though. Brenda said she'll miss the black monster.

for now i'll be using one of those little $50 MV50 compressors that we had from when Aimee had MiniMe, which should be fine for the stock size tires. eventually i'll mount something permanent - probably a twin ARB under the passenger seat, or a couple Zenith OB2's.

anyhow, i went to put the little guy in the JK and noticed that the nipple on the proprietary hose that lets you screw it on a valve stem had broken off and so i replaced the connector on the compressor with a more typical female quick-connect and now i can use my coiled PowerTank hose.

the built-in gauge was worthless, so i removed that, replaced it with a bolt (and teflon tape), and then rotated the compressor head 90* so that the new quick-connect doesn't stick way out the side.

you have to make sure and use an "open" or "free flow" quick-connect and tire chuck so that the compressor doesn't exploderate! i had an open chuck but not an open quick-connect, however i was able to take apart a standard one and drill a hole in the center portion to convert it to free-flowing.

everything including an old Brookstone tire gauge fit into a small Harbour Freight canvas bag.

when i had the compressor head off, i noticed what appeared to be dried grease caked on the piston. i don't think these are "oil-free" type compressors, so i'm guessing this was its lube and might be why these guys burn up quickly sometimes? or maybe it is meant to melt when they get hot and still lubricates correctly... not sure, but i squirted some teflon lube all around the cylinder to give it a leg up.

ScottL got the "Trail Rated" badge and put it to good use...
Thanks K, I like it.
