Chris & Sarah and myself took an impromptu trip out to Horseshoe dam a few weeks ago since they were releasing water.

last weekend it snowed a bunch here in AZ, even in the edge of town!

this was just off Bartlett Dam Road last Thursday morning when it first started:

and the next day in the edge of North Scottsdale:

then yesterday it was 77* here - i love Arizona!

i've been thinking about getting a low-profile rear bumper sometime soon but there are a couple things i wanted to address first...

1) i've got my back-up camera mounted to the rear bumper now, just below the spare tire. i could certainly attach it to a different bumper in the same place, but it isn't high enough to provide an optimum viewing angle anyway.

2) the factory license plate location is susceptible to getting ripped off with narrow rear bumpers. i've always wanted to move my license plate to the spare tire anway (just for the look), but then it would get covered up when running a bag for trash.

so i made a new movable mount for the license plate, rearview camera, and third brake light:

most of the time it just looks much like your typical spare-mounted license plate holder.

but if i'm on a multi-day trip and using my current alternative to a Trasharoo, i can easily move it to that bag.

the back of my little mount has 2 very strong neodymium magnets.

those magnets stick to the upper two extended lug nuts holding the spare on, which are from the Teraflex license plate & 3rd brake light relocation kit that came with their Alpha tire carrier.

then on my trash backpack, i have a couple strikers for the magnets to stick to (mounted on MOLLE speed clips). there's also a little rubber spacer to make sure the plate sits more upright.

so far i've tested it extensively on washboard/bumpy trails while attached to the lug nuts and it did not move. i've yet to test it attached to the bag though. i'm slightly concerned about what will happen with the bag whipping around at freeway speeds, but i could always add a third magnet.

items purchased for this project:
stuff i already had:

Genius!
Always enjoy seeing things from someone else's point of view. I've been wanting to do a trash bag but didn't want to cover up the camera.
This is very clever.
