Default 99 XJ - Aka "Sandy"
Heres my girl Sandy! Got her a year ago and she was in dire need of attention. So far Ive re-done nearly the entire front end. Put a new engine in her (ATK) too. Lots of other here and theres that needed attention. After all of that, she still needs work! At least the majors are out of the way. Now its mostly, odds and ends, door panels, windows yada yada, it never ends right?

Oh I also built that roof rack! Was stoked to learn how to weld!

Ive included a pic of all 4 of my loves as well!

Looks like Sandy found a great home. I have a soft spot for XJs and I love to see people fixing them up. Nice pics, thanks for posting them!

Just did the Durango Box swap! Holy cow what an improvement! Probably the single best upgrade to date. Turning is quicker lock to lock at only about 2.5 turns. It turns to effortlessly with 33s.

In case anyone has been tossing around the idea, I got mine on Rockauto. Choose a BBB Industries which had not just inspected internals but new and replaced bearings and ball.

Love it!

Was it a direct bolt on or did you have to use shims to get the larger gear box away from the frame?

Well I already had a larger aftermarket spacer, about 3/8 in thick i think. The typical ones you see from companies like JCR and what not.

The spacer does have the offset backing for this swap.
No additional shims needed. Only the washers under the bolt heads on the outer rail.

My Rugged Ridge steering brace also fit with this box no problemo! Very happy!

Got the box at Rockauto for $198 with $75 core. All internals are new/replaced. BBB Industries was the brand.

Up next is the AA SYE kit into my 231.

Still deciding if i want to do it myself or commission someone to take of it. ive never opened a transfer case before.

But then again I never removed a steering box before!

splitting the t-case is one of those intimidating things that turns out to not be too bad. just take your time and have some sort of system for knowing exactly what order all the parts came out. you're only taking apart the back half of the guts for a SYE install, so it's not as involved as a complete rebuild.

Advanced Adapters has a video and some step by step instructions here: http://www.advanceadapters.com/produ...7906--50-7907/ (click on the word "Installation" in the black bar to see the PDF instructions).

Started swapping out my shocks for Bilsteins.

3 shocks were a breeze, then, this!

Previous owner must of snapped a bolt/head and opted to weld the bar pin onto the dang body!

WTH!! This should be fun.
