Definitely! Can only get the registration done once I have it in running order because I need to do emissions too as the tags expired March 2017.

Had some time in between classes to take a quick look at the ZJ at home again. Starting to get real excited for the build and positive that it has potential! I started stripping the interior and found all the old paperwork from previous owners. The car seems to have been in Arizona for most of its life. It was owned by an elderly lady from what I can see from early as 2012. It had regular oil changes and maintenance done which is a plus. It had its trans rebuilt in July 2013 (master rebuild kit, solenoid pack and gov pressure sensor). In 2014 it was traded to a gentleman for a 2007 Hyuandai Accent. The guy I bought it from owned it since March 2016. Quite interesting to find all the old documentation and learn some history about the Jeep

On to some pics. As you can see, it’s very dirty. It seems like it was standing in the lot where I picked it up from for atleast 6-12 months. I also need to take care of the rust which is pictured. Very random spot for rust, as there’s no where else really a build up of it as far as I can see. I’m assuming someone drove it through salty water and didn’t take proper care of cleaning it up.

Picking up a new set of 4 rims tomorrow. Pro Comp Series 7089 Alloys in 17x9. Not sure if I’ll use it on the ZJ or the XJ yet, but I’m sure they’ll be mounted soon

Been a pretty Jeepful past 2 days. I had a nasty valve cover gasket leak on both covers, which made a sludgey oil build up on top of the manifold. If you ran the Jeep to operating temperatures it would start to smoke really bad because of the oil lying on the hot headers. In order to access it, I had to get creative with removing the valve covers. All the PCV valves were very brittle and subsequently cracked. I’m still busy cleaning the actual headers, but I thoroughly degreased the covers, gave them a good sand down and sprayed them with a high temp ceramic engine enamel. They turned out pretty sweet, and now it’s only to get the rest of the engine as clean!

I also pulled out almost all the plastic in the engine bay and giving everything a real good scrub. There’s just a ton of dust and all sorts of mess everywhere which needs to be cleaned up. Tomorrow morning I’m dropping the 46RE trans pan to try and get a closer look at what’s happening in there. For some reason these transmission don’t have a fluid drain plug, so hopefully it won’t be too much of a mess.

Also a big thanks to fellow forum member Kurt for kindly giving me a pair of 3.5” IRO Springs, I’m sure they’ll be of good use!

ZJ starting to take some better shape. Made a bit of a gruesome discovery when removing the side door mouldings. There is a collection of rust on the bottom rocker panel. I’ve already sketched up an idea of a rock slider idea. Some 2x6 square tubing welded into the frame should be a good start. I’m hoping to pick up a small welder soon to start learning how to weld on some smaller projects. I mounted my XJ spare tire, a 305/70/R16 Mickey Thomson Baja MTZ on a 16x8 Mickey Thomson Alloy. Definitely some fender trimming to be done.

Boat side rock sliders might be an option to cut the rust out and weld in the sliders.

That is exactly my plan! Something similar to this. Just need to gain some confidence on a welder first
