Decided this morning that I would try get to the bottom of the “tick” that I would get under acceleration. I always thought it was a slight piston slap or rod knock associated with the high mileage. I read up a little more and read that the flex plate could be a potential culprit too.

Pulled off the flex plate cover and started tightening the bolts with a 15mm wrench. First one felt firm, second one was so loose I could tighten it with my hand, third one was firm and fourth one also need a tightening. Gave my flexplate a thorough inspection just to make sure there were no hairline cracks. Thankfully there weren’t any! Put everything back, started it up and I could hardly recognize the engine! A good success for a minimal job

With the cool weather we had today, I thought it would be applicable to take my hood off and make the cuts for my hood vents in preparation for summer. I carefully marked it with masking tape and gave it a cut with the cut off wheel. I will update the installed pics in daylight tomorrow.

Where’s my hood?!

I have been running the Rubicon Express RE1600 Heim joint single shear track bar for a while now. I noticed that the ZJ's stock track bar was beyond repairable, and in preparation for a lift I would have had to have gotten an adjustable one anyways. I decided that it would be best to upgrade the XJ's to the Rubicon Express RE1660 and RE1665 bracket to make it a decent double shear setup. Fortunately the RE1600 is a direct bolt on for the ZJ!

Here is a "prospective" wishlist of things which still need to be ordered:

Browndog Motor mounts
IPF H4 headlights
Rubicon Express RE3715 adjustable lower control arms
Bluetop steering box
Boostwerks steering brace
Bushwacker Flat Fender Flares
Warn 76600 rock sliders
Bilstein 5100's
Yukon 4.56 gears front and rear
Cooper STT Pro 305/70/17
Cargo rack
JCR Crusader front and rear bumper

I have the Brown Dog motor mounts with the rubber bushings in XJ. The bushings are stiff and allow a lot of engine vibration to enter the unibody. While idling in park or with the brake on, I can feel the vibrations and hear the body vibrate. I'll put the transmission in neutral at times, when idling at a stop light or sign, to help reduce the vibrations. It's not alway successful.

That’s what I’ve read about them online too. Some people said it took up to 3000 miles for the rubber ones to break in and dampen the vibrations. Would you suggest a different brand?
