2011-10-06 Hole in the Rock Trail aka Mormon Trail, Utah

Recommended Posts

We leave in just a few hours for the "Hole in the Rock Trail", Utah...

Follow our progress from here (just click on one of the bright orange Spot icons next to Offroad Passport 1 or 2):

http://offroadpassport.com/where.php

34 miles each way, through some of the most uninhabited, unspoiled land in Utah. It follows part of a much longer route blazed by Mormon missionaries driving covered wagons during the winter of 1879-80 from Escalante to what would become the town of Bluff on the San Juan River. The Hole in the Rock Trail is often confused with the Hole in the Rock Road. Almost anything with tires can make it over Hole in the Rock Road; this is the much more rugged part of the emigrants’ journey that began after they skidded their wagons down the mile long dugway and ferried them all across what was then the Colorado River.

Unfortunately maddogjeeper (dennis) and I had to abort the trip due to mechanical issues. I had front driveline problems and maddog's transmission was problematic. I gave maddog a ride back home yesterday and he is driving back up with his tow rig to bring his jeep back home. Oh well....maybe we'll have better luck next time!
