I can't find it now but there was a good article by 4x4PodCast about why its a good idea to make sure your companion has the ability to drive, like what if you became incapacitated or whatever. It is obviously a plus. I have always said that myself. Ya never know when something might happen. And with my 4Runner being a manual trans, it can be a little more difficult to drive in an off road situation. Good thing for us is she has owned a few manual tranny trucks herself so really, she already knows the hardest part to teach. I have been explaining every move I make on the trail as we go just about every trip, and I have been letting her drive as much as possible too.
