driving tax!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm not the least bit surprised. Municipalities and government entities are looking for ways to stay solvent just like the rest of us. I guess they're thinking of ways they might be able to slip a tax in un-noticed, like a mileage tax vs. a gas tax, which would be obvious. Scary, none-the-less.

This is not only scary on the surface, but in the implications deep down. I'm not one to usually go off on conspiracy theories, but this leads to a bunch of questions in my mind. Could they automatically generated speeding tickets for you every time the GPS says you're going 10 miles over the speed limit? What about tracking you, knowing where you are? What if they sold this information to private firms for even more money? People would know where you live, where you go. What if I called in "sick" to work and they could pull up my real time GPS coordinates and find out that I'm out having fun in the mountains? That would be a bummer :D.

I am sure the technology is available .....

In Singapore they charge you for driving to the center of the city by reading a bar code on your windshield ....

Toll roads in the US can read bar codes on windshields to see if you have paid for the pass ....

Now they are talking about letting drones fly in the US, which is okay with me, as long as it is for border security ... and

I'm confident drones can be configured for all types of electronic surveillance, military or civil.

I find it non-palatable immediately due to one sentence... "low-income drivers are exempted." If it was a fair and valid tax it would be equally applicable to all. Besides, this is a garbage idea to begin with. It panders to the people/voters of that district who probably do not travel far due to living in a larger metro area and panders to the bleeding hearts of sparing the poor.

Well it did start in San Fransisco so you know most of those people dont beleive in cars to begin with. I remember reading about something like this around a decade ago. It was on the federal level but never got anywhere as it was seen as an invasion of privacy and the people would rather pay higher taxes then having the government know where you are at all times.

Coming from the socialist state of Arizona (which ranks last in everything while taking more money from Washington than it pays in taxes to the general fund):

Close the loopholes for the wealthy and the issue solves itself. Tax the corporations at Eisenhower levels instead of the silly tea bagger proposals of 15% or less and the problem solves itself. I don't know why some people think there should be tax "equity" between someone making $30,000 a year and some making a million dollars a year.

Lower taxes = lower wages and a lower standard of living. Higher taxes = higher wages and increased standard of living. Do the research and don't buy Heritage Foundation talking points.

that being said, this proposal will go no where. It is an election year

Technically purely by accusations alone Arizona is more of a Fascist state. Socialism is where everyone is the same, There are no class struggles. in Socialism the Government makes sure your needs are met. California could be considered more of a social style state. They offer more hand outs and assistance and like the USSR they are going bankrupt.

With the GPS thing in California that comes off as more total totalitarian with them wanting to "control" all aspects of your life.

Either way its wrong.

I am wondering how they would implement the whole idea? I guess you probably wouldnt be able to re-register your vehicle until you have a GPS unit installed and probably at your cost. This is the same lunacy as trying to serial # individual bullets.

Well you better get used to the "control" thing because it is the new wave of the corporations controlling everything. That is the text book definition of fascism: the merger of corporations, government & religion.

You are confusing your socialisms, opting for the popular but incorrect definition favored by the barkers on the right. I would gladly live under a Democratic socialism as personified in Sen Bernie Sanders, who is one of the few in Washington not bought off by anyone.

I sure don't see any problem with this: "Democratic socialism generally refers to any political movement that seeks to establish an economy based on economic democracy by and for the working class."

Especially given the fact that uncontrolled, unegulated capitalism can not be sustained. Nor is it equitable or fair.

California? Was a perfect state economy-wise until Prop. 13 passed in the 1970's. By a vanguard teabagger, no less. A series of loser governors, culminating with Steroid Man (in an election that was completely unnecessary) has left the state almost bankrupt. Not surprising given the state is one of the fastest growing. Don't kid yourself, AZ is headed the same way. A failing infrastructure, critical underfunding of education, severe pollution of the environment. Jeez. Sounds like Mexico City to me....

Serial numbers on ammo? More like an urban myth.

I'd be more worried about your kids being RFID chipped at school!!
