Lightning sparks fires in Tonto National Forest

Recommended Posts

From the East Valley Tribune:

Lightning strikes from a late night storm caused multiple fires Wednesday night throughout the Tonto National Forest and Superstition Mountains.

Officials said there are approximately eight confirmed lightning fires on five of the six forest ranger districts, including the Mesa Ranger District, popular among hikers, birders and those who like to go tubing on the Salt River. The fires range from .10 to 10 acres in size.

Authorities said fire crews are on scene at most of the locations. Crews said two of the fires are in extremely remote areas that are hard to get to.

The Tonto National Forest is located just northeast of Mesa and Apache Junction.

Officials said no structures are being threatened at this time.
