tucsonWJ 1 Posted March 10, 2013 My bushings will be replaced tomorow, its been a while driving with they the way they are gotta love the death wobble it keeps you on your toes. Im going to be doing the claytons in the next few months and I may keep the 4" spings I have right now for a bit but in the end I want to go to 6". Where did you get your spring rubber's? Ive been looking for them for a while and all i seen to find is the OEM ones. I might be able to make the Rug road trip, I just need to have a new front driveshaft made since I destroyed mine on my last trip out. I should have some time next weekend so we should try to hookup. Bradywgn71 798 Posted March 10, 2013 The spring insulators were picked up on RockAuto.com. I bought Moog brand K160041, K160040, K160042, K160061, you need 2 of each. I just checked on their sight and you can get all 8 shipped for $93.
tucsonWJ 1 Posted March 11, 2013 Are they poly or rubber?
aloysius80 0 Posted March 12, 2013 Hey Chris, Im new to the site and was reading through your thread, looks great. My WJ is going the same direction as your almost to a T. My problem is I have to move backwards to move forward. Im already lifted and trimmed, just didnt do enough reasearch in the begining and ended up buying a 4" short arm kit. Big mistake, rides like crap and destroys bushings like nothing I have seen. Now im going clayton LA, which I should have done in the begining. I think I have spent the same amount in adjustable control arms and the lift. Looks like you are up in the Eagle Crest area from the background, im up on the NW side as well. I'd love to meet up with you sometime to take a closer look at your WJ, and get some advise from some one who has installed the clayton themself. Nice build! Hi Ryan . My computer had given up so havent been on here much lately. with the ride quality and bushing life what length do you have your arms set to? Mine was awful and tore front upper control arm bushes to bits in around a week when i first got the arms.( 2nd hand from a guy that works at a jeep specialist, should have been set up to work right). He hadn't cut any thing and could clear a 285 75 16. But the arms were with in 2 mm of stock arms. I moved my front diff forward about an inch it made a world of difference and doesn't tear bushes to bits any more. Springs now sit relatively straight at ride height. It's still harsher than stock but there's a lot less bushing there. any way might be worth a try till you get the long arm set up.
tucsonWJ 1 Posted March 14, 2013 Hey Aloysius, They are at oem length right now. If I get some time I will try extending them out about an inch for starters. Did you have any death wobble issues and did that help it. I just dont how much time and effort I want to invest into my present setup when the clayton is in the near future. aloysius80 0 Posted March 18, 2013 I had death wobbles when all my rod ends were shot and i smashed the steering damper in a creek crossing. The mesurements i used were in (I think) Alros wj suspension thread on jeep forum. I think he has gone to Claytons to but it might be worth a read.
Bradywgn71 798 Posted May 13, 2013 Catching up on my build thread. After installing the lift in Oct. 2012, I joined the Welcome AORC trip in Superior, AZ. as a shake down trip. I wanted to make sure everything was good to go for the Swansea trip. I stopped by Lake Pleasant on the way to Wickenburg where we spent the night. At Swansea: Sarah driving at the Newb class, she did great! Thanksgiving Leftovers Run: A little tippy... All new U-joints: My least favorite job on the WJ so far.... passenger's side valve cover gasket replacement. The driver's side is soo much easier. Bungee cords holding everything out of the way. I also put in a new thermostat and hoses while I had it all apart. I noticed that the front upper control arm bushings were torn up while I was underneath doing the lower radiator hose. Omix-Ada bushings, junk after only 6 months... Replaced them with these Moog bushings listed for a 96-98 ZJ. The center sleeve fit the bolt much better than the Omix-Ada ones did. Bradywgn71 798 Posted May 13, 2013 Checking out the Jack Handle trail, The Squeeze at the entrance: Tight fit: Steering dampener got bent, first trail damage ever. Not counting pin-striping of course. Started work on my roof rack. With the weight of the spare tire, Hi-Lift and other things, I didn't like how it would sometimes shift slightly on the factory crossbars. I decided to get this thing bolted directly to the roof of the WJ. I also made a side mount for the Hi-Lift which included a grab handle for climbing into the back of the WJ when we're camping. Welding 1/4" to conduit is fun... I got tired of fixing my MV-50 air compressor after every wheeling trip, so I bought a Puma compressor from Buzzard Gulch on Ebay for about $225 shipped. It doesn't include a hose and there's only a positive and negative wire stub that I had to figure out how to hook up to my battery. I used a cheap set of 10ga. jumper cables from WallyWorld for the hook up by cutting the clamps off of one end then butt connecting them to the Puma. It works great! I bought a 20 ft. yellow coiled plastic hose from Home Depot for $11 and an ARB hose chuck with gauge from Amazon for $35. This compressor fills tires in no time. I may figure out a way of permanently mounting this inside at a later time.
