Canyonlands Maze District May 15th through May 20th 2013

Recommended Posts

was reading up on the area. Interesting trip that peaked my curiosity. I noticed not only do they only allow charcoal in designated campsites but they do not allow pets in back country areas. No mention of them having to be on a leash, just prohibited. I guess you can not call your horse/mule a pet.

Looking forward to pics from this trip.

Pets, fires ect. not allowed in the backcountry. Pretty standard stuff once you get off the pavement.

Canyonlands is very strict, but therefore also very pristine. when in The Maze i don't think i saw a single piece of trash, and maybe only 1 place where a rogue trail was cut. the camping is limited to specific very small sites that have defined boundaries and permits are required (usually at least a month or more in advance). it's also a requirement that you pack out your own excrement (using wag-bags or similar).

No problem with no fires or such with me Sam...just double-checking. It will be a blessing that I don't need to pack firewood!

John:

When you break down, if you can hang on for 2 weeks we will rescue you and pull you out to pavement. :)

A week to go. Jim and I will be staying at Gouldings Monday night. Curly and Mike Buckner are staying at Goblin Valley. I don't know the plans for the others. I would hope that he Gouldings and Goblin group meet up Tuesday and continue on via Natural Bridges to Hanksville. Ham 147.480 mhz and maybe by 9:30 am Jim and I will pass by Goblin Valley. Wednesday we will all meet at 9 am at the gas station which is carved in the rock, or for that matter anywhere else in Hanksville. It is a very small place. Any questions?

Since I am the only one heading to Hanksville from the North (Reno, NV) I won't be running into anyone on the way.

I will be heading East on Hwy 50 across Nevada on Monday and I am planning on staying at Delta, UT Monday night the 13th.

That will make for a short day to Hanksville Tuesday and I should be there by mid afternoon to check into the Whispering Sands Motel.

See you Tuesday, looks like we will have Sunny and Warm Weather!!! :)
