TheKSmith's 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Limited 4.7 H.O. - The Do-It-All Rig

Recommended Posts

had no time to wheel or do mods for a while, but here are some updates from a few weeks ago:

- finished the seam sealer. needed a second tube, ended up with NAPA brand instead of 3M (all they had)... it's way stiffer and easier to put where you want it, so FYI, get the NAPA brand.

- put a first coat on the rear fenders where they were cut and where i bondo-ed the previous boulder dents. it really showed how ****ty my bondo work that i thought was decent really was. gonna have to do more work when it cools off :(

- mounted this extra little pouch on the door. you can never have too many places to put crap in a expedition rig. currently it's keeping my knife and headlamp for easy access instead of having to dig around in the center console all the time:

- george welded a 1/4" piece of angle as a skid/reinforcement for that radiator support that i've beaten up several times now. should help alot until i get bumper one day. he did sort of a "stitch-weld" since he was welding heavy-duty stuff to really thin stuff. thanks G!

- i've also decided to run without the plastic bumper from now on, it was just giving a false sense of security and not allowing a spotter to truely see whether i was going to smash something important or just scratch plastic... now there's no guessing if something will clear an obstacle. had to use the dremel to cut the grill separate from the bumper, then painted everything that was under the bumper satin black. looks mean now IMO

Hey K, sorry I didn't put these pictures up - been kind of busy. Here's how I added the steel to the radiator support.

Test fit:

First I had to sand down the paint and globs of bond to get to bare metal to weld on:

After I got it down to bare metal I made a stitch weld:

And on the back side:

Ready to caulk and paint:

Finished product - notice the holes I drilled in the bottom for drainage:

Now let's go pound some rocks! George

P.S. You're welcome. Thanks for wiring Clifford's new 2-speed fan. :D

Lookin good! You probably don't want to hear this, but i can stuff my 35's without having to cut off the rear fenders where the door area is. I just moved my axle back about an inch or so, when when they stuff up, they don't touch that area near the door. I did have to remove more of the bumper in the back, and also took off a little of the top of the fender, but i didn't have to seal anything up, since it was only very minimal.

I like how you mounted that stuff to the door panel. Nice and easy access!
