Thanksgiving Leftovers Run 2012 Pictures Thread

Recommended Posts

Well we were out there for 1 of the 2 days of 'splorin the day after Thanksgiving. Here is my favorite way to spend Black Friday! The weather was perfect, lots of great company and endless trails. Here's a picture to start this thread:

We met JKGoose, defectivemonk, gearhead & theksmith in Apache Junction, then met up with ducksface & bradywgn71 in Superior. Then we went down 177 to the Battleaxe trailhead, went past Walnut Canyon to go splorin around the Gila River. Pictures from the day:

Right when we got to the mining ruins where George wanted to stop for lunch ducksface had a torsion bar issue. It was a good place for it because there was a slab he parked on so they could jack it up & fix it.

So they got it sort of fixed I guess (I'm clueless) and ducksface went back the way we'd come, gearhead went with them because we didn't want them to go alone. The rest of us went to check out Red Mountain Mine Rd., the actual 'splorin portion of the trip. We didn't get very far up the trail before doing a u-turn. It was in a wash and started to get bushy.

Then we continued along the gila where part of the trail is very washed out!

On up the road we split into 2 groups: those who were camping and those who were going home. TheKsmith, Bradywgn71 and defectivemonk went to set up camp while we and JKGoose headed for home.

We went back to the Gila, crossed and got on Cochran Rd.

My camera freaked out an gave me a "lens error" for this trip. This evidently means that the photos come out blurry. However I did still manage to get some neat shots. Thanks to everyone for another fun trip! This certainly was some beautiful country.

Glad I got out to take pictures for this tippy spot:

We noticed after stopping that Chris's jeep had footprints on the top of it. Evidently something checked out his jeep while he was sleeping in it:

This picture doesn't show how steep this was or the slot he could fall into:

Some beautiful scenery after making it over the pass:

Entering Box Canyon. The traffic jam was amusing at first and then annoying when a different jeep group couldn't figure out how to get a lifted wranger over a small rock and almost hit Chris's Jeep. The spotter was screaming at

the driver and telling him to turn right which would have caused him to hit Chris's jeep. Made me so thankful for our patient spotters.

Thanks again for a great trip! Next time I bring my good camera.
