Exploring Near Tombstone

Recommended Posts

Today, after class at the college, I drove home by way of Tombstone, The town too tough to die... Drove out Charleston Rd to Tombstone, then turned left on Allen street away from town. Allen street follows the original Tombstone rail line towards Fairbank where it merged with the Benson-Bisbee Rail line. After a couple of miles, it turns to dirt and is maintained by the county until it gets to a big Horse park. From then on, it is a somewhat smooth dirt road that follows the rail bed. I had heard of this trail before but have never explored this area. I knew from what I have read that it has a connection to Hwy 82 which is the main highway that I live near. I followed it just to see what it is like with plans on going back for a more in depth exploration. I came upon this old tressle with the timbers still in place.

There are many other trails that lead off of this one, but you need a state land trust permit to go on those. Enjoy the pics, I will take more the next time I go back.

Was down in that area visiting my sister and hubby over Christmas. Boy was it windy and cold! They leave north of Elgin. Had not done too much exploring in that area. Have done some trails on the Empire Ranch and west and north of Sonoita. Need to see more of that area.
