scottL 185 Posted November 10, 2016 Got the speaker from Crutchfield today as promised. For the cost and effort it sounds great to me. Way better than expected with a 10" powered sub and 4 5.25" coaxial speakers I already had that are running off the head unit only Doesn't take up any extra cargo space, just the small cubby hole that I've never really used Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That head gasket is old news so I made "wall art" out of it. looks great - glad you are happy with the sound!Thank you! During set up I could not find PREOUT or REAR SP settings on my actual head unit but did find a pre-amp mode where I was able to adjust treble/mid/bass power levels. This really helped bring out the treble and mid range from my 5.25's. Then while bumpin' some tunes I set bass frequency to personal preference which ended up being 40hz with the low pass filter at 100hz. The best part, NO RATTLES! Very concerning after reading reviews in that NAXJA link of passenger rear seatbelt mechanism vibration noises since it's so close to the enclosure. I was able to cram most all of the factory insulation back behind the box plus a couple strips of dynamat were applied on the inside of the quarter panel. I also stuffed some old t-shirts behind and all around the seatbelt thingy. Solid so far. Very happy drive to work today! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
scottL 185 Posted November 12, 2016 Before the Rug Road trip I had my oil changed and decided to get new motor mounts. Previously, I was noticing increased power train flex when getting into throttle. So I ordered a set of Brown Dog motor mounts, manufactured right here in Queen Creek, Arizona (R.I.P. mOOse) & paid my mechanic to install them in time to meet up with the crew. The old ones looked ok, but I see they were beginning to separate from the metal bracket which secures them to the "frame" The Brown Dogs are beef & again made in the U S of A At first I was disappointed because of extra vibrations from the more solid, brand new engine mounts but after a couple hundred miles, including 60+ offroad, I can no longer tell a difference. scottL 185 Posted November 13, 2016 Stopped by George and Diane's today to r&r my leaf spring bushings. For the last several years I've had this aggravating "popping" sound coming from the rear every time I come to a stop and again when I take off, like clock work. Then on the trail when it gets rutted, the popping persists. Very often. I couldn't figure out why. The sound reminds me of that toy I used to push around just after learning to walk I called Deaver for a replacement set of bushings & sleeves earlier this week. Today G helped out with the install Leaf pack out, bushings and sleeves replaced Half of the bushings were trashed, the others still snug The old sleeves looked warped from the "FlexJ" (would make a good custom license plate, no?) After giving it a good once over, we noticed a couple scrape marks where the spring was coming into contact with the unit body Before re-installing George smoothed the edge of the 'spring's metal for clearance Then also beat the crap out of the underside of my unit body with a ball peen hammer Now there's much more space to wiggle I also removed the old bump stops.
