NEVERENOUGH 0 Posted April 12, 2013 Hello everyone I was just curious if anybody has ever done any type of expedition travel with their utv. A buddy and myself are getting ready to do such a trip and I was just curious if anybody else has done it. We are leaving from my place in Chino Valley and will be traveling to Williams on back roads. We are planning on camping for 3 nights and fishing some of the local lakes. All total we are expecting to travel around 250 miles in 4 days. Any thoughts or imput is more than welcome. This is a first of hopefully many trips like this so we are expecting some type of learning curve lol.
theksmith 3,833 Posted April 13, 2013 sounds like fun! i've never had any experience with UTV's, but plenty with ATV's. i guess your biggest downside is having to make a loop - i.e. you can't pop out in a random new location and take the freeway home. but your upside is being able to cover a lot more ground than a 4x4. i bet on dirt you can cover 1/3 to double the miles that a typical Jeep or 4x4 pickup could in a given day. i'm sure you are aware of all that though... so the biggest challenge i can think of for you is storage. 4 days can be quite a bit of supplies to carry, so make sure and Tetris it all in good also please do lash everything down really well and distribute the weight evenly - expect the unexpected. looking forward to the trip report! dzJeepChic 2,435 Posted April 13, 2013 Wrap you're bedding and clothes in waterproof/dustproof bags or containers. Minimize excess trash prior to the trip such as plastic over-wrap on food, beverage rings, inner wrap on many food containers, just to make packing it out easier. Freeze some almost full 2 liter bottles of water and use them to keep food and beverages cool for a few days, then drink them the last few days. Bring biodegradable soap so you can bathe in the lake. That's all I've got for now... Have fun, take pics!
NEVERENOUGH 0 Posted April 13, 2013 Hey thanks for the advice. We are packing like we are backpacking the lighter the better. I always freeze some water bottles and lay them on the bottom of the coolers seems to help a bunch. My buddies always laugh at me but I also buy my ice a day or two before and put it in the freezer at home it seems to last longer lol. I will post some pics and a ride report during and after we are done. I can't wait less than a week away.
