Offroad Passport 51 Posted July 31, 2013 1/4/2014: Holiday Party Trail Ride, BBQ, Gift Exchange & Cookie Contest near Scottsdale, AZ: 4x4 Moderate Come enjoy yourself at our annual Holiday party after the Holidays! It's a short trail ride to the Quartz Hills Wash where we'll BBQ lunch, laugh it up at the cut-throat white elephant gift exchange, and choose the winner of the annual cookie contest (YUM!)! This is a moderate rated trail appropriate for most stock high-clearance 4x4 vehicles. After the fun we'll head back out the same way we went in, typically airing up by mid-afternoon. Meet up & Itinerary: 9:00 AM - Depart for trail 9:30 AM (or when everyone is ready) Shell/Circle K on Shea Blvd & Monterey Dr., Fountain Hills, AZ (South side of Shea, West of Hwy. 87) Map here... The trail is rated moderate, and winds through a very scenic area. Stock high-clearance 4x4s and drivers with at least some experience should be OK. The trail's challenges include a rocky portion up a small shelf and careful tire placement on decomposed granite, where good articulation is key. There has a little pucker-factor while navigating a few deep ruts on steep hills. We'll gladly spot anyone who needs a second set of eyes. Part of the route criss-crosses a stream that may be flowing with a few inches of water. Additional Info: Sign up for the POTLUCK!
