Thought you were going with a cheap wrangler for your project Dan?

i'll get flamed for this - but the only "old" Jeep i'd have would be a Comanche, retro-fitted with the 97+ XJ front clip. you can keep anything else vintage or classic from the Jeep family!

Sadly there is no such thing as a cheap wrangler, really thinking ZJ or XJ.

Nice call K. My Dad had an '89 MJ shortbed. Spring under rear with looooong travel from the factory, longer than most modified XJ's. Dana 44 rear from the factory, 4.0, 5spd manual, 3" lift and 31's. The unusual thing about MJ's that a lot of people don't know is that the drivetrain was tucked up into the truck an additional 1.5" compared to the XJ. That allowed for higher ground clearance and a cleaner underbody to compensate for the longer WB. That thing was extremely capable for a truck with no lockers. Pretty BA if you ask me.

K, not even an old Willys? My dad had a 1953 Willys and that thing was a beast, even stock. That was my first off-roading experience and probably the reason I'm into it now.
