10/3 - 10/7/2013: Comb Ridge and Nearby Trails, Utah

Recommended Posts

Great pictures guys, it was like a trip down memory lane for me. I did a similar run a few years ago, except I did NOT know you could drive up on top of Comb Ridge! Too cool! I'm curious what resources you used for your trip planning. I did a fair amount of reading back when I planned my trip (2008?), but didn't find any reference to that particular trail. Did you explore any of the ruins in Comb Ridge. There are quite a few, though the hike from the road up into the rocks gets a bit tiring after half a dozen traverses!

Regarding Arch Canyon, I did find some great old trail books about Arch Canyon that are long of print now, and I recall reading that there are something like 140 documented ruins in that canyon. They are well hidden I guess. My family did a diligent search and only found 14 or so. It was a great experience to be sure.

We all did a lot of research in various places. The trail on top of the Comb was an easy find for us on Trail Damage; it's called Posey's trail. The article said it was a must do for the views, it was right...

I'm really envious of this run. It looks like it was amazing!

Glad everyone made it home safe, minus a couple spares.

Amazing photos. I'd love to check out this area when it is a bit warmer. You looked frozen at camp!

Great trip report & haircut K, seems like you could run a trail all the way from Flagstaff to Grand Junction.

Uploading the pictures on my phone I found a couple from this trip.

The first one is proof that I can get an early start:

My handsome Jeep, Clifford, loaded to the gills pre-expedition:

I never get tired of this view even though it's not my favorite stretch of road:

That was such an awesome trip...

I just made it finally back to SFO and now to germany. Thanks again for the great trip.

The last week, I had to drive without my main battery, as it was dead. I used my second battery to jump start myself all week long. But still had a good time on some Moab trails, the last days before I left.

Does anybody know the ground current draw in a jeep JK ? After putting in a new main battery, we measured between 50 and 70 mA current at the battery terminal. The guy in the shop said, everything below 100 mA is ok. 30 mA would be perfect.

Glad you made it back safely!

my WJ's manual says 35mA of current draw max when everything is off, i would imagine most cars are similar.

i agree though that 100mA should be fine... a car battery should certainly not be dying overnight from a 100mA draw, not even from a couple Amps draw.

how old was that battery? and do you run a battery tender on it when you are storing your Jeep?
