dzJeepChic 2,897 Posted December 10, 2013 We postponed our Mud Springs trail run from December 14, 2013 to this new date in late January. Mud Springs is a difficult rated trail near Fountain Hills, AZ. We recommend rigs with some lift, at least 33" aggressive tread tires and at least 1 locker. This is a fun scenic trail that goes back into the hills ending at a shack. There are lots of obstacles all along the trail, from steep climbs up decomposing granite and between boulders to off-camber sections and possible creek-crossing. This trail is rated on the upper end of difficult; body damage is likely. We will provide spotting to everyone who would like it. Meet up: Shell/Circle K on Shea Blvd & Monterey Dr., Fountain Hills, AZ (South side of Shea, West of Hwy. 87) Depart for trail 7:00 AM (or earlier if everyone is ready) Map here... Additional Info: CB Channel: 4 HAM radio simplex freq: 146.46 Everyone should bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water. We also recommend that you bring basic tools, spare tire, spare parts, etc. just in case. Participants DO NOT need a permit. People friendly pets allowed. Trip may be cancelled in the case of rainy weather. Trail Leaders 1. Number 7, dzJeepchic Attending: 2. theksmith 3. scottL 4. Rush 5. LO PHAT 6. CB726 0 Posted December 14, 2013 It would be nice to meet some folks, newbie question to the group and this particular run and not to the jeep world but would a WJ with just 3 inch IRO springs, 245's, open diffs and no t-case skid make this or best to wait for an easier get together. So many factors go into the answer. Maybe you can judge for yourself looking at this video from mud springs back in the day. Kristoffer's (theksmith) Jeep was about where you are now I think. (correct me if I'm wrong please k!). Anyways, this vid is a pretty good representation of what the 2nd half of the trail is like. dzJeepChic 2,897 Posted December 15, 2013 Thanks for reply! I understand its not an easy answer but thought I get some feelers, I know what its like to have less capable rigs in a group.. btw the link is not active anymore:( Okay sorry, it still works for me. Anyways I hope K comes on here to add his $0.02. I'd say if you have a lot of experience, yada-yada, but it is a hard trail and the tcase skid is what would worry me the most. You can also try to google Mud Springs Trail...

This is a very hard trail with large boulders and wash outs most of the trail. This is for built rigs and experienced drivers only. Most rigs sustain some body damage on the (Big Hill) from a huge bolder that you have to squeeze past. Armor is a must on this trail especially rock sliders. LO PHAT 1 Posted December 15, 2013 It would be nice to meet some folks, newbie question to the group and this particular run and not to the jeep world but would a WJ with just 3 inch IRO springs, 245's, open diffs and no t-case skid make this or best to wait for an easier get together. I would recommend that you wait for an easier run. I have seen a couple of flops and plenty of body damage happen on Mud Springs. It is a very challenging trail. If you have lots of experience wheeling your WJ and are OK with body damage you will enjoy the challenges this trail presents. If your experience is limited and/or you want to keep your Jeep's body straight, this is not a trail that you want to try.

I have only run this trail once however as mentioned above you should seriously consider passing on this one. It is a fun trail but they are not exaggerating about the potential for body damage. Just my 2 cents
