Comments sought on Coronado National Forest Draft Land Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement, public meeting scheduled Jan. 22, 2014

Release Date: Jan 14, 2014

TUCSON, AZ (January 14, 2014) – The Coronado National Forest has developed a proposed land management plan and a programmatic Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for public review and comment. The final land management plan will replace the current plan, written in 1986, and provide guidance for managing 1,783,639 acres of National Forest System lands for the next 10 to 15 years.

The proposed plan is based on best available science and years of collaboration with the public, tribes, other federal agencies, and state and local governments. The DEIS evaluates four alternatives, including the proposed plan and the current plan, and discloses the environmental consequences that could occur under each alternative. Comments received on the proposed plan and DEIS will inform the decision on the final land management plan that is expected in 2014.

The proposed plan, programmatic draft environmental impact statement and plan set of documents can be found at the following web address: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/landmanagement/planning/?cid=fswdev7_018673 .

The public is encouraged to participate throughout the plan revision process. Stakeholder involvement and input will help to develop effective and sustainable forest guidance for the next decade and beyond.

The last public meeting regarding the Draft Forest Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be held for the Santa Catalina Ranger District on January 22, 2014 at the Morris K. Udall Regional Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde, Tucson, Arizona from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The 90-day public review and comment period began on November 23, 2013.

I will be attending.
