Jeep4Fun 0 Posted February 25, 2014 Just bought two 3 gallon RotopaX fuel packs, but both were defective and had to send them back. On one, the spout was about 1/4 inch too long and the cap wouldn't screw down to the locking ring. The other one leaked. Interested in other's experiences with these products. Wondering if it is worth a 2nd try.

Scramblin_Jim 1 Posted February 25, 2014 I have two 2-gallon ones; one water, one gas. Never a bit of a problem. Had them about a year now. Taken them on several trips. Mounted using the adapter for the stock spare tire; max weight is 4-gallons worth for this carrier. I actually like them very much as they are much easier to handle than 5 gallon Jerry cans which I had before. No need to siphon out the gas with one of those gas siphon hose that rattles, just use the included spout that comes with each can. That way ya get ever drop of gas out of the container. I have a bike cable lock around them to prevent them from walking off. Only negative about them is no way to prevent someone siphoning out the gas as the cap is not locking. When not carrying the water one on the tire carrier, I just put it in the back of the Jeep. Never worry about how it is sitting back there as the cap has held without leaking in all positions. I'm thinking about getting one more of each; placing the gas containers outside and the water inside the Jeep.
theksmith 3,833 Posted February 25, 2014 interesting... i've only ever heard good things about the Rotopax before. i hope it was a fluke and not a sign that their QC is going down-hill overall. i have seen it mentioned before that the look-alike Kolpin brand were not up to the same quality as Rotopax. i'm still using the military plastic Sceptre's with the long clear spout.
