dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 5, 2010 George wanted to put the new Jeep on some rollers he's got out back so it's easier to work on. The thing sits so high on the 35's it's hard to get into the engine bay. It looked funny when it was mismatched: It looks really funny on itty tires! The cage and Currie logo just don't look right on it: My buddy Ob1 asked if I wanted to trade the 35's on my new Jeep with some 33's he had, so we've got those stashed and ready to go. Ordered a high-volume water pump, bought some battery terminals, started cleaning it out a bit. That's about all so far. d
dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 8, 2010 Getting started on some things. Took out the factory windshield washer canister to make room for a vaccuum cylinder that was displaced when the wheel wells were cut out; it had been behind the factory bumper, then just kind of thrown on the distributer. Drained the radiator to get ready for the new water pump. Found this crud the radiator cap housing: Discovered a clean throttle body. Yay! Discovered quite a few torn rubber hose ends. Found a chunk out of the power-steering pulley. Thanks to Luvitdiry Steve, I have a spare from the donor cherokee he gave me. Sorry for the bad picture, here's the worn out water pump: You can see grooves where the water pump was where the blades were gouging the housing: Continued V V V
dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 8, 2010 Valve cover gasket was leaky. Here I am using an exact-o knife and removing the old gasket. On the clean valve cover a little RTV to glue the new gasket on. New gasket in place. More to come! GnD
GRUNT 26 Posted February 8, 2010 Looking good D. I love build threads! are you guys going to move that spare tire mount to the roof? Knowing Mr. George, is he planning on "de-gunking" that motor?
dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 8, 2010 Looking good D. I love build threads! are you guys going to move that spare tire mount to the roof? We don't know yet. The Jeep also came with a tire carrier that attaches to the rear bumper & swings away, so between that and the exo cage we've got lots of options.
dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 9, 2010 More work got done today. Found out the battery tray is broken on the left side due to over-tightening: Cleaned the timing chain cover and discovered 3 bolts just hand-tight so I tightened them back up. Now I know why it was seeping oil: The valve-cover gasket was stuck to the head, which is unusual, it's usually stuck to the valve-cover. It was a PITA to scrape it off and clean the surface. Here's the cleaned valve-cover with new gasket ready to be bolted on (shiny! ): This is the thermostat housing. I cleaned and drummelled it out a little bit to increase water flow. And that's it for today. Hopefully the water-pump will be in tomorrow! GnD

theksmith 178 Posted February 9, 2010 Knowing Mr. George, is he planning on "de-gunking" that motor? with some bolts only being "hand tight" so far, he better not - that gunk is holding everything together! did you guys de-sticker it yet?
dzJeepChic 112 Posted February 13, 2010 The De-Stickering has not happened yet. Here's the latest progress: The new FlowKooler Water Pump (http://www.flowkooler.com) is installed. Found out there's 2 different pumps; the hub sizes and depths are different, so you have to measure your old one when ordering. We ordered ours from 4WheelParts Warehouse and got 10% off. It's nice and shiny: The over-flow jug on the right is the one I took off. It's clogged in the little syphon tube so I took the other one off my donor XJ and will use that so the radiator can puke in the jug. Cut the exhaust pipe in half and removed the front section to make it easier to pull the transmission pan. This was going to have to get done anyways since the muffler and cat were smashed against the floor. Bad picture, but the muffler pushed this cap up through the floor and started burning the undercoating right under the back seat passenger side: Installing a new transmission filter/screen, and I also wanted to see what it looks like on the inside. Here it is with the pan off: The Pan New filter and gasket Magnets in the pan and some of the crud they caught: Transmission with the filter off, looks pretty clean: Messy job, the transmission was always dripping oil: Continued V V V
