Smurftruck: 1997 Dodge 1500 4x4 Single Cab

Recommended Posts

This 1997 Dodge 1500 4x4 Single-cab is Large Marge's replacement. We bought it from a private party today in Prescott. This is the first used truck I've ever bought that didn't need 100 things before I'd daily-drive it, so far it's good to go except I do need new shocks for it soon. It's metallic blue over silver exterior, and I think it was repainted at some point because it's very glossy compared to other trucks it's age. I have decided to call it Smurftruck.

Plans for building it are undetermined at this time, but I'm glad to have a truck again.

Looks good! Probably has been repainted, Dodge trucks from that era have a terrible time keeping the clear coat on. I had a 96 Dakota that I bought new that I couldn't keep the paint on it. Finally gave up on it, it wasn't worth the cost of a paint job.

I knew it had been repainted when I first laid eyes on it, but it's more obvious under incandescent lights in our garage than it is under overcast skies in daylight. Here in the garage with the driver's door open I can see the line between old and new. The new paint is more metallic and maybe a little darker, but damn it's close!

It's a little weird to find an 18 y.o. truck in such pristine condition. All the other ones we've looked at so far were completely trashed; I mean, we seriously wondered how these guys were even pricing their trucks. (Ask me about the truck with super-glued or siliconed interior pieces)! We're kind-of waiting for the other shoe to drop on this little gem we discovered, but so far we've been pleasantly surprised. It's obvious a lot of work has been done. Every little nook and cranny is clean, everything works, everything looks nice. I got to drive it home and boy did I love that V8 baby! It runs great. Pretty exciting.

I can tell you both are beaming and proud. Congratulations on the new V8 edition to your family.

That looks like a great find! The superglue on all those other trucks' dashboards is because the plastic Dodge used during those years was notoriously brittle. Be careful if you put a radio in it!

I find it so hilarious and awesome that y'all have a build thread here that's only one page long, lol! (I'm sure that won't last long though...)
