ob1jeeper 564 Posted May 5, 2015 Sam was a devout lover of hiking, most anywhere we traveled, but he seemed to be especiallly "at home" in his beloved Canyonlands, which he was always preparred to share with others… Sam had what I can best describe as an almost British sense of humor… Rest in Peace Sam. We won't ever forget you…

Ladybug 505 Posted May 5, 2015 Dear Sam, You have been on my mind all night long. I remember fondly that first camping trip with you, back in 2009. It was posted for a few days at the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I could tell the moment that I got there, that I was semi-intruding on something special with you 4 guys....you, Russ, Jim, and Woody. And while the other 3 seemed to readily accept me and my (blond, well-endowed) girlfriend, I wasn't so sure how happy you were to have 2 women along. But I got to know you a little more each day. Found that you knew the Grand Canyon and its trails and its secrets like the back of your hand. Found out that you are one of the best tour guides and love to share those spaces with others who share your love of God's beautiful land. Found that funny sense of humor that you have. And when all was said and done, and I asked if I could do another trip with you someday, you replied, Sure, as long as I brought my girlfriend along. You grew quickly to accept hugs and smiles and send barbs right back to me, and we camped many times after that...despite my having left my girlfriend at home. I feel very honored to have had you as a special part of my life Sam. I miss you so much already. Take care, until we climb those rocks again... ladybug Sam, always with his doggie bags for Lucy.... azjeep4me 1 Posted May 5, 2015 I was truly sadden to hear the news of Sam's passing. Sam was a fantastic guy that certainly introduced me to some wonderful country. We had many happy trips exploring Arizona, Utah and California. Sam introduced me to the Canyonlands National Park, all three of them, of which I was fortunate enough to go with him several times. A friend and a great guy to travel with. Thanks for the wonderful memories. And Yes, Happy Trails to you
scottL 179 Posted May 5, 2015 Didn't get to know Sam very well but I had the opportunity to wheel with him a few times. Cinders & Mogollon Rim are a couple runs off the top of my head. One thing i will never forget is The Rain Fly Incident http://offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2349&highlight=sierra+expeditions Some people come and go, others leave a lasting impression. Sam was obviously of the latter
