Ricky Bobby - G&D's 2007 JK Rubicon

Recommended Posts

We ditched the smart after we found out it tries to reconnect if you're going more than 18 mph, plus they just seem to be prone to problems that wouldn't be fun to have when we're out in the sticks. :D

G installed a non-rubicon sway-bar:

Welded on pins to hold the sway-bar up when disconnected:

So one day I went out there and George was hacking on the front bumper. No discussion ahead of time, no "hey honey, what do you think about the front bumper", he was just cutting it off.

He said he kept hitting his head on this shelf-like bottom part of the bumper, apparently there to protect the smart-bar. So he cut it off and created more ground clearance, and welding in a cross-member to tie the winch into the frame, not just the bumper

Marking the cut:

Cut off the low hanging fruit:

Welded on a beefier cross-member that is higher off the ground:

Trial fit hacked up stubby bumper:

The bumper had a built-in winch plate. So here G was tying in that winch plate to his new cross-member:

Painted the cross-member:

Drilling holes to mount the winch plate:

Bumper/winch plate bolted to the new cross-member:

George, what type of cutting tool did you use to trim your fenders?

Scott, good face-off. Sounds like they are not up on the latest product roll out.
