Offroad Passport 13 Posted August 2, 2015 Open to Everyone 2/20 – 2/21: Turkey Creek & Black Canyon Creek: near Black Canyon City, AZ: 4x4 Moderate: Primitive camping Come out for a quick weekend of camping and 2 trail runs. Saturday we'll run Turkey Creek, a scenic trail that winds along a stream bed in canyons at the eastern end of the Bradshaw Mountains. Expect to get your rig wet several times crossing the creek (it should be running). Overall the trail is rated easy to moderate and the area is great for photography. We'll camp near the end of the trail, likely close to water. After a good night's rest, we can hit the nearby moderate rated Black Canyon Creek trail. This loop will put us back close to Black Canyon City & the I-17 by early afternoon. Itinerary:Meet Saturday at 9:30am at the large paved pull out area just off Exit 248 of the I-17 (on the west side). This is the Bumble Bee / Crown King exit. The pull out area should show in the center of this map: https://goo.gl/maps/bJT66Fhf7UD2 Those coming from Phoenix will see the spot without any problem after they exit and cross over the highway. HOWEVER, if you are coming in from the SOUTH-BOUND I-17 (i.e. headed towards Phoenix), note that you actually have to keep going straight like you were going to get back on I-17 to get to the spot. There are no services near the meeting spot. Be sure to top off and get your ice/etc. before you get there. Bring a lunch for both days (and a dinner & breakfast of course)! We should actually be off the trail by 1pm on Sunday, but you never know for certain! Additional Info: Driver Requirements: This trail is suitable for members with some 4x4 driving experience negotiating rocks and water crossings. There's nothing too difficult; just a few places the trail goes up and over rock ledges, one that's fairly narrow, an another between some boulders with a drop off. Most technical areas are bypassable. Vehicle Minimums: All vehicles are required to meet state legal requirements, (i.e.: current registration and insurance) Have functional seat-belts for each occupantMust have suitable recovery points front and rearSuitable for stock, high-clearance 4x4 vehicles with low-rangeAll-terrain or mud-terrain tiresEach vehicle must have a CB Radio or a Ham Radio in good working order.
