China Dam and Fort Tule Picture Thread - Nov 2015

Here are some pictures from yesterday's outing to China Dam and Ft. Tule. My entire album is here: Diane's Photos

 

The gang going up the road:

 

 

We could see Lake Pleasant as we gained elevation on the trail:

 

 

When we arrived here, I thought it was China Dam:

 

 

 

Beautiful grass or whatever growing in the nearby pool:

 

 

But then I saw everybody was walking down a path so I followed them and we ended up here at the real China Dam

 

 

That there's a dam, Clark:

 

 

I missed the telling of it, but the story is that they made a big hole in it to release water after the dam was no longer needed for the operation:

 

 

 

Then we took some crazy shortcut down the wash over a mild rock crawl and up a steep bank to the trail leading to Ft. Tule. Another view of Lake Pleasant along the way:

 

 

We parked a short distance from the gate at Ft. Tule and walked to the site from there.

 

 

Just inside the gate there was a stack of railroad track rails:

 

 

And the grave of someone's companion named 'Pooch':

 

 

The cabin at Ft. Tule:

 

 

 

Much conjecture about the purpose of what appeared to be a timer of some sort:

 

 

The bathtub was outside and shot full of holes. So much for a soak:

 

 

But you'd get soaked if you were standing inside on a rainy day...

 

 

We walked back to our rigs and all had lunch there. Bradywgn71 Chris found a substantial mica deposit nearby; some of us took a sample home:

The weather was beautiful and it was a great day to be out with friends exploring something new (at least is was new to me!). Thanks everybody who came out to play!

Great pictures Marcus, thanks for posting them. I love that picture of Sarah and me! I thought cattails had a cat's tail looking thing? I missed that hive but I heard something on the radio.
