dzJeepChic 2,435 Posted December 14, 2020 I LOVE that picture of Gadget! Wow, that sky though!!!! I also really like the sunset shot of both Jeeps. Hell-to-the-ya about closing Butcher Jones gate to cut down on the riff-raff at cove 1 especially!
theksmith 3,832 Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) we took Gadget up north to get a Christmas tree the other weekend. i noticed my Teraflex shocks were rubbing on the frame an small amount at full flex even though the tops of them space outward to supposedly prevent this. i already had a pair of Metalcloak outboard shock relocation brackets that move the bottom of the shocks out for the same reason. i'd never taken the time to make sure they would fit with my current factory wheels plus 1.25" spacers. turns out they do just barely clear the tires. the brackets also move the lower mounting point up about 3/4", which with my current bump-stopping and shocks was fine (i had enough compression left to still not bottom out the shocks). i like that the Metalcloak brackets brace to the spring perch so the extra leverage of outboard mounting doesn't rip your stock brackets off the axle. this is a better design than many similar bolt-on mounts. you can see the shocks lean away from the frame a fair bit now. then i took the Jeep out for some flex tests to make sure tires/shocks/frame/brake-lines/etc. were all playing nice together. there was a beautiful pastel sky sunset while airing back up - gotta love AZ winters! and Gadget hit 111,100 miles the other day! theksmith 3,832 Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) i put Gadget on truck scales and she's 5,720 pounds with 3/4 tank of gas and all the normal tools & spare parts i carry. the stock curb weight for a Rubicon Unlimited is 4,521 pounds - so all the skid plates, bumpers, big tires, winch, heavy duty suspension components, fridge, rear storage, compressor, and tools/parts add up to around 1,200 lbs. with the other 5 gallons of fuel i'd be at at 5,751. plus 7 gallons in my water tank brings me to 5,809. add my own weight and we're over 6k. that's not even including camping supplies, food & drinks, an extra 4 gallon fuel container, or a passenger. though it's well over the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 5,700 pounds, i'd say she's probably lighter than many other overland rigs. I've always been amazed at how little official "payload capacity" we get on these rigs. It always feels small to me. I'm sure lawyers are the reason. 🤔 Edited December 21, 2020 by 4x4tographer

jgaz 545 Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) Just in case someone doesn’t have the metric conversion factor: metric shit ton A metric shit ton is exactly 204.62262 pounds more than a shit ton. Edited December 21, 2020 by jgaz 4
