Apache Lake Cove Exploration 4/2/2016 Picture Thread

Recommended Posts

Saturday we checked out a trail that goes from Roosevelt Lake to a cove on Apache Lake. We had heard about the trial from a friend who did it recently in a side-by-side. Looking back we probably should have inquired more about the trail conditions, but knowing the guy, we were counting on a moderate trail. The trail runs mostly on top of ridges but drops down into a wash several times, which is where we encountered the majority of the overgrowth and a few more challenging spots.

We drove under this tree in the first was crossing

Several steep climbs and descents between wash crossings. There's one very off-camber spot that gets your attention!

We drove under this tree to reach the sandy cove after George trimmed it a bit

We had lunch at the cove. A few brave souls swam in the lake.

Then we headed back the way we went in. Turned out a more challenging the other way. Theksmith's new JK got hung up on some tree roots and had a tough time in one of the washes and Bradywgn71's WJ had a tough time climbing out of one of the wash crossings after a big rock was re-located on the trail.

It was a long day! After multiple stops to trim a few trees, stack a few rocks, guide each other, etc. we arrived back at Hwy 188 about 5:30.

The Carnage:

TheKSmith got matching front bumper dimples on his new JK

We lost BOTH our CB antenna and our regular stereo antenna! We found the CB antenna but didn't even notice the other one until we were airing up.

Undoubtedly there was more carnage suffered by others in the group, after all we also found our steering needed adjustment after that trail!

We also came down pretty hard off a boulder at one point after a textbook slider pivot, scuffing my rear bumper and driver side spring shackle

I also scored some of the craziest AZ pinstriping to date but everyone in my Cherokee-full-of-chicks had lots of fun.

Great trail & trip report Diane, thanks for posting your pictures and also thanks to George for landscaping last weekend.

Driver side?

that's on the passenger side. his aftermarket skids seem to have prevented the carnage that my factory gas tank skid endured!

Yep, for some reason (blind spot?) most damage is always on the mid section passenger side. My OEM fuel tank skid looks as bad as yours. I still have it under the aftermarket one. I'm dual armor on that side.
