Recommended Posts

What:

Tip Top Mine Trail, #43 in the AZ Charles Wells book, rated Moderate in the book at 4 to 5 hours long. this is a one way in and back out the same way trail which should put us back on the I-17 at the Table Mesa Road exit in the mid afternoon.

i've never been but i have the book so let's go! should be some decent desert scenery, rough enough trail to keep you awake, and plenty of historical junk!

Other Details:

ok, your all on the list!

decided to limit this to 10 rigs since it's exploratory - might get lost and have to do some tight u-turns! also not sure how much parking at the end of the trail.

I was down this trail a few times. Not a whole lot of parking by or around the mine, but still can park quite a few rigs along the trail there. Be sure to venture past the mines a bit and on the left side of the trail you should come across a rusted out windmill, supposedly where a cemetery might have been and a little further down is where I believe the Tip Top post office was. Just the foundation is left though. If you keep going a little farther you will eventually cross a cattle guard and into a larger open area where you could park for lunch too.

On the way to the mine, should you want to venture off the main road, there is a side trail, just after the entrance to Terminator, which may be 9999F (?). can't remember for sure, but it runs parallel with the main road for a bit, and then connects back to the main trail before you get to Tip Top.

I always enjoyed this trail, have fun out there!

thanks Dave! how would you rate the main road? what about that parallel road you mentioned? is that open area after tip-top the end of the road, or have you been to the very end?
