h8tnlife 0 Posted June 7, 2016 So Im pretty new out there in Phoenix....Just bought a house... Who are the best internet and tv providers out here. We had Verizon FIOS fiber optics back on the east coast which were awesome. Dosent seem to be an option out here. :-/ Cox seems to get pretty bad reviews from what Ive read. theksmith 3,828 Posted June 7, 2016 for local providers it's either Cox or Centurylink (formerly Qwest) - they both have TV, Internet & land-line phone bundles. in general Centurylink is cheaper, but their internet is slower in most neighborhoods, though in a few places the reverse is true. otherwise if you don't want one of the local providers it's Dish or DirectTV. or you can get a Verizon wireless home modem, but i doubt that is practical for most folks. some apartments/condos have weird providers - i lived in one townhome many years ago that had some weird deal with AT&T to provide internet and TV through satellite to everyone. i think Cox works just fine 95% of the time, and they seem to get on any issues quickly. i just wish there were more competitors in the market to drive costs down for internet access (we don't buy Cable TV at all). h8tnlife 0 Posted June 7, 2016 Thank you sir for that info. From the little bit that I've read, it looks like we are going to be stuck with cox for cable and direct tv for tv. going thru all of the bundles and channels is making my head spin, LoL
jgaz 545 Posted June 7, 2016 Cox works well for us. I agree with the 95%. I was very unimpressed with the original installer but the service tech that came to fix the installers screw ups was top notch.
kaspily 2 Posted June 8, 2016 We use Cox for internet only. Then got Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon for tv shows. Cox has been way better to deal with than Comcast. Whatever you do avoid Century Link.
chazur 0 Posted June 8, 2016 I long for FiOS. I had it back east and it is unmatched in the industry. Of course, the fact that I am retired from Verizon landline and had free service helped! Seriously, I'm stuck with Century Link and their pitiful DSL service. Cox serves the house one street over and we (all the neighbors on this street) have been unable to convince them to extend their service. As for DirecTV, since it's takover by AT&T, customer service (Which was never really very good) has only gotten worse. I had to call a couple times for them to come re-align the dish after a haboob and both times they told me it would be 3 to 4 days to get a tech out to get us back in service. I told them that was fine, I would call DISH and they would be out that afternoon so they could pick up their equipment in four days, no need to rush. Amazingly, they were able to get a tech out that day! We, thankfully, are off contract with DirecTVand can switch if we want. We keep hoping Century Link will get PRISM out our way. Hope springs eternal!
h8tnlife 0 Posted June 9, 2016 Beings I'm from back east as well, we had Verizon Fios... Best by far that we've ever had. Was disappointed when we found out it wasn't availabile here. Looks like we are settling on cox for Internet and direct tv for tv. We'll see how that goes.
dzJeepChic 2,433 Posted June 15, 2016 We've had Cox for internet and TV for years until last week. We were on the lowest TV platform which was $25/month, where we mainly watched Food Network (me), History & Discovery (G), and then we have Amazon & Netflix for movies and other shows, etc. Last week I installed Cox's new Mini Box(es), mandatory because they're going to all high-def. After the installation the only channels we had were local and infomercial paid programming. I called Cox to ask some questions but they put me on hold and forgot about me. When I called back I was immediately switched over to some forever on-hold line again. So I uninstalled the boxes, returned them, and told Cox to keep their TV service. The funny thing is, since then I got back a couple cable channels (obviously not in high-def).

I agree: I use Cox internet (very happy with it) and Netflix for everything else. I haven't had cable/dish etc in the 5 years I've owned my current home. Zeep 2 Posted June 18, 2016 If you already have Amazon Fire tv, it's worth your while to look into Kodi. Search it on YouTube.
