3/23/2017 - 3/26/2017: Vermilion Cliffs NM, 4x4 easy

Recommended Posts

As Mike asked us, whether we are going again to the Vermilion Cliffs in 2017, we decided to fix the dates and post this trip way in advance.

In the Vermilion Cliffs NM is the famous White Pocket formation located. Additionally there are a lot of rim overlooks and indian ruins. In july, I found two new locations, where I did not find any publications in the web so far. Overall there is a lot to discover.

The trails are mostly sand trails. Most of them are usually easy, but some of them might be a little bit more difficult.

We plan to arrive on march, 22nd evening at the Cliff Dwellers Lodge in Cliff Dwellers (map). Trail runs will be on 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th and we will leave on 27th morning.

If somebody is interested to join, just reply to this thread.

Hi Wayne,

most people, who wanna camp, choose the Lee´s Ferry campground. The advantage is, that there is some 'infrastructure' around you. And we would meet at Cliff Dwellers, so that you could have, if you want, breakfast there, before leaving.

There is one more campground, the Stateline campground, along House Rock Valley Road. It has 3 drive in and 1 walk in camp spot. There are picnic tables and also a restroom.

Here is a map of the area: Vermilion Cliffs map

Normally we would go up on the plateau at the point, named House Rock Road on the map. So Stateline campground would be the closest location, but there is very bad cellphone reception and the camp spots are first come/first serve.

I will once again try to make this trip. No further plans to modify the jeep so it should be ready. Well maybe a super charger.
