hand held ham

Recommended Posts

I clip my beofang to the driver side sun visor. Stays up out of the way and easily accessible. Just reach up and push the button to communicate. Problem for me is the satellite radio often interferes, even at maximum squelch. If mine dies I'll probably try the Yaesu next.

Scott, did you get your ham license? What frequency are you transmitting on with the Baofeng?

A mag mount antenna with the necessary adapter for the HT might be a good idea as well.

HTs don't work all that well from inside a vehicle.

I started out with a couple of Baofengs, 3 years of rolling around inside my dirty Jeep and they still work. I don't use them much anymore but they are there in case I need to step away from the Jeep and no worries if they get wet/dirty. My daily commute takes me too far away from the local repeater that I use so it was either get an external antenna and hand mic or go ahead and invest in a mobile radio.
