4WLNRN 557 Posted April 9, 2017 not sure if this is the right spot to ask this, so I apologize and please move as needed... In trips you guys set up, do you ever combine shooting into trips when you stop at a spot to camp?
Number7 87 Posted April 10, 2017 Good question, we have never done that. I think it is because that we are so loaded up with camping gear that guns ammo and targets would take up too much space. Hand guns would probably be ok. G:cool:
4WLNRN 557 Posted April 10, 2017 Ah, gotcha. I always save a little space for a rifle or two, plus ammo for them as well as for the piece I carry.
kaspily 2 Posted April 11, 2017 I'd be fine but make sure the kids and/or animals are contained prior to firing. My dogs would have to be in the car or they'd freak.
dzJeepChic 2,565 Posted April 11, 2017 I can't recall any time where we went shooting at camp, but I wouldn't be against it. Generally everybody's too concerned with getting camp set up, eating, getting a fire going, and drinking.
curbjumper 30 Posted April 11, 2017 George and Diane would look at me in a bad way if I brought a deer/elk rifle. There is always a place and time to practice certain skills.
Dravur 0 Posted April 11, 2017 I usually take a .22 to plink with, usually suppressed so it doesn't bother anyone.

IMHO, Many forms of shooting practice arw not compatible with exploration/overlanding/camping type trips where, much of the daylight hours are taken up with the basics of setting up & tearing down camp in order to spend the bulk of the daylight hours exploring. If an event were to be advertised, and organized as primarily a target shooting activity/venue, I believe that would be appealing to those with a different interest than exploring/overlanding. I am not against target shooting activities, as I throuoghly enjoy doing so, I just don't believe that is the primary focus or interest of those in this ORP group, and to be frank, I'm also pretty darned picky about who I share shooting activites with, as there is a significantly higer risk associated with that activity, than overlanding and exploring via 4-wheel drive vehicles. 4WLNRN 557 Posted April 19, 2017 Cool. Was just curious. I grew up off-road exploring with my dad in the Owens Valley and we'd always stop and plink for an hour or 2 if we found a nice spot. Was just curious how other's felt here. though I too am picky about who I enjoy 2A activities. thanks for all the input folks. Looking forward to meeting a lot of you in the future. gearhead 468 Posted April 23, 2017 Hey George and Diane, If I recall correctly we did do target shooting on just one trip. It was on a lady's private ranch near Wikieup on the east side of the 93. I remember that the Duckface was there and so was Maddogjeeper. I shot the 'zombie' .223 gun that the Duckface brought and didn't like it. I also remember that a stick punctured Duckface's radiator. Am I crazy or do you all remember this too?
