Photobucket breaks internet, demands ransom

Recommended Posts

Photobucket has stopped allowing users on their free and lower-tier plans to embed images in third party websites - i.e. post pics hosted with them on forums and such. Folks are not impressed as the change in terms supposedly happened overnight at the end of June and without any prior warning - not to mention their minimum plan that does still allow 3rd party embedding is priced rather outrageously.

A couple of articles covering this story:

Though they've lost some popularity in the past few years, Photobucket was probably the biggest image hosting site for quite a long time... I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of broken images on forums and blogs now!

$400 bucks a year! I don't see many people jumping on board.

Yep, I'll be deleting my account with them. I noticed dead pictures a few days ago and figured I did something wrong.

I've got dead pictures in multiple locations that I should try to fix. I've got the originals that I could upload to a different host. It's not on my short list...

Sounds like a fun afternoon. Lol. Not. That will take some work trying to figure out what picture went with each post.
