Strange Happenings on The Rubicon Trail

Recommended Posts

On the way up Cadillac Hill as we were finishing the Rubicon Trail, another group told us about a Cherokee up ahead, broke down and blocking the trail. They told us that these two guys had broken something and got as far as they could, but got into a huge fight along the way. Story was that they were in 2 Cherokees, one of which had the interior burned out in the fight. Another group told us about a 2006 Powerstroke at the Air-Up area with it's tires slashed and all the windows broken. Further up the trail a couple guys on their way to Rubicon Springs to work on getting ready for the Jamboree told us they had pulled it out of the way so it was no longer blocking the road.

We came to the 1st Cherokee as we approached Miller Lake.

The 1st Cherokee was registered to Garrett Haas, and the Powerstroke has personalized Nevada license plates that say HAAS1. All but the driver's window are bashed in on the truck, and there's blood splattered on it here and there. All the tires are flat; punctured sidewalls. Neither Jeep had been burned it turned out.

It was a weird eerie scene to witness. Hard to imagine what happened. Strange the other Cherokee made it to Air-Up area as the rear driveshaft was mangled and sitting in the back seat, and it had damage to the tri-linked rear-end; one of the springs was sprung, and one of the control-arms was dangling. We recognized it as one we had seen at Rubicon Springs fairly late the evening before. No sign of the occupants.

And believe me, after discovering that cooler we considered staying one more night since still had one more pack of hotdogs but we were completely out of beer . . .
