Samsung Tablet A 10.1 (wifi only)

Recommended Posts

Costco had them on sale thru Sep 2nd for $180, so I bought one.

I've downloaded Gaia Premium and have messing around with the software.

Looking forward to see how the hardware works out in the boonies.

Mike sure seemed like he was loving the tablet/GAIA GPS while we were in UT.

I plan still using my ancient Garmin Nuvi 265 for street and the highway; tried Waze and was not impressesd out on the highway (probably my learning curve).

The tablet works in that I can read the screen easier.

i'm glad it's working overall for you!

- if you plan a route with Google Maps while you you have internet, it will pre-download the map for that trip. however, if you stray very far from your plan, then it won't have the map. that's a big limitation, but it is a completely free option.

- i highly recommend the app Copilot USA to get a Nuvi-like experience. it used to cost about $15, but they switched to "in-app purchases" so i'm not sure the current price: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alk.copilot.namarket.premiumusa

after you install the app, you download the entire US map while you have internet access (about 1.5GB) and after that it works offline. it includes a lot of larger forest roads but it's mainly for street/highway use. it will handle trip routing as well as give spoken turn-by-turn directions.

I'll give a try on Copilot.

Thanks for the info.
