FYI, if anyone experiences the Easyguard engine starting suddenly becoming unreliable - you're probably about to need a new vehicle battery. It seems the Easyguard and/or Fortin & Omega modules are very sensitive to even the slightest weak battery.

 

I've had to replace my battery twice now (you only get about 3 years with the Phoenix heat). Both times for about a month prior to there being any other warning that it was going out, the Easyguard would sometimes not start on first button press. Instead it would light up the button as if it had started, yet the engine hadn't even tried to turn over (no click-click or anything). I'd have to press the button again while holding the brake pedal to make it turn-off... then on the next button press it would usually crank just fine. 

 

Oh, and I'm just using your typical H6 AGM battery like came with the Jeep (currently one from Walmart, previous one was Autozone Duralast).

Any thoughts on the best way to disable the lock/unlock apart from disabling it with the fob? It drives me nuts if I’m in the Garage working on the Jeep with the keys in my pocket…constant locking and unlocking.

Kris,

I sure do appreciate your write up and used the omega products to get my setup going. I wired directly to the brake wire and I feel like everything else is connected correctly. My PKE works correctly, When I step on the brake the PTS button light blinks and if I press and hold the button it will start. The only time it will actually start on a quick button press is if I have just manually hit the fob unlock button. Any ideas?

it's been a long time, but i seem to remember a setting in the Easyguard to "prolong cranking time" - maybe the Omega needs a long pulse to tell it to start? that's the only thing i can think of right this moment.

Bob -

 

Two thoughts come to mind for why it is behaving like this in addition to Kris’s input.

 

1) The dipswitches that control the functions of the easy guard.  Double check that you have them in the correct position to disable the anti-carjacking feature

2) The other thought is on my setup, I believe the Easy Guard RPM sensor needed +12v to keep the jeep running after cranking.  Otherwise she’d die after just a few quick pulses from the starter.

I suppose the Easyguard that I bought using the link supplied is newer because it is black plastic cased. The instructions are wrong  just as you said and are still printed to say after getting into program mode hit the start button 2 times to ramp up to 1.8 seconds. I must have tried the 5-3-5 no less than 10 times. I tried 5-2-5 a few times too. but still no go. Tonight after entering program mode I hit start button 1 time and it chirped once, I hit a second time and it chirped twice, 3rd time I got 3 chirps, then I hit a fourth and got 4 chirps, a fifth and got 5 chirps and so on. I finally stopped at 7 and exited programming mode. It worked! I guess they've updated the firmware and not the manual.  I've gone from super frustrated to thrilled!

Hi Kristoffer and Guys,

I have a Jeep Wrangler 2016 Willys, I have Omega Excaliber 1775, which already has a remote start and the alarm system. So it doesn't need the OL MBD ALL, I was wondering if it is possible to add the push to start and the PKE to my current system. It would be really appreciated if someone can guide me please.
