Smksignals 0 Posted March 6, 2019 Over-done. Nothing like having limb risers guide those branches right into your roof lights and fiberglass roof top tent.
jgaz 517 Posted March 7, 2019 Over-done. Looks like someone drove thru a Quadratec catalog dragging a crap magnet!
GRUNT 87 Posted March 7, 2019 While it initially looks like it has a bit much, I think it is fine. There is some sort of sticker on the side that looks to possibly be promotional. Perhaps it is a demo/sponsor vehicle and why it has one of everything. Regardless, I believe to each, their own. We all have different vehicles and those of similar make, are all different in themselves. Some tend to model their owners personality. They have a lifts, oversized tires, a rack for gear, gas cans, lights, a rooftop tent, snorkel, etc. a variety of which are all things I have seen on your Jeeps. At least it isn't a YJ that has been sitting, broken, for 11 years.
theksmith 3,667 Posted March 7, 2019 just curious on opinions because i think for many people this would be the epitome of an "overland rig". it has more going on externally than suits my taste... but, i've got my own insane list of mods so i can't say much you have to give credit that they're obviously out using it and most of the stuff appears functional - unlike the countless sparkling clean mall crawlers with 20" color-matched rims and a winch that isn't even wired in! i also dig their choice of a Freespirit Recreation roof-top-tent - those would be on my short list for brands if i ever got a RTT.
BigTuna117 33 Posted March 7, 2019 I actually Ran into these guys in Sedona when I was doing the Shakedown for my re-worked suspension. I didn't get out and talk, but hey, I did get a wave and a thumbs up. These rigs get used, so I suspect that the parts came to be put on piece by piece in a more "Necessity is the mother of invention" type way. But also trying to keep it lookin' cool up front. I've always lived by the philosophy that "If there is a reasonable explanation for it, then it makes sense." In other words, I'd need to see a build video explaining the different additions and why they came to be before I gave you a definitive opinion.
scottL 173 Posted March 7, 2019 First saw the scratches on his fender flare and thought Overland. Then I noticed his propane tank dangling out back, susceptible to tree branches and rock punctures. Over-done.

BigTuna117 33 Posted March 8, 2019 Sorry 'bout that, Scott. I was typing that whilst drinking my morning coffee and missed an "I." Didn't mean for that to sound snarky. ... "Before I gave you a definitive opinion," is what it was supposed to say. Now that I have seen the build video, here's my couple of opinions. I feel like I'd constantly hit myself on hinge mounted steps, though I do understand the practicality. I agree with you, I believe that the propane tank would pose a hazard in a narrow traverse. I also agree with Kris. There's a lot going on externally- especially in the lighting department. I like the awning, (and the RTT) but such things do definitely take a toll on weight and topheaviness of a vehicle. I know in my own case it wouldn't really be practical in my stage of life as a single, 5'11" guy who can just drop a twin mattress down inside the Jeep and sleep in relative comfort. I'm jealous of the drawer system, and the fridge. Especially the fridge. I too appreciate that things hold functionality it appears.
