HAM, CB, or Both?

Recommended Posts

I finally got my Jeep running so I am looking to update my communications. I have a CB and a handheld HAM. Do most people run both? With regard to HAM radios, do most people use the handheld or mobile units?

we have all three, but by far THE best of them are the two Ham's. IMHO, CB's are just barely better than a string with two coffee cans... LOL YMMV... ;)

I'm with OB1, I prefer my ham radio over CB, but keep the CB in case we are on a run with a group that doesn't use Ham. I run both a mobile and handheld ham.

We run both CB and Ham; a CB unit in every rig, and our HAM is a handheld that we transfer between rigs. The HAM definitely works better than the CB, but the CB works fine if the group isn't too spread out. My only critique of running both is that sometimes it can be a little nerve-wracking when both radios are receiving from multiple people at the same time. I've spoken into the wrong mic lots of times. :o

I'm running ham, cb, & gmrs.

Gmrs so much better then cb almost ham quality. Other club (JEO) doing away with cb as of 1Jan20. Minimum communication on trips will be GMRS. For now will keep cb in case as Tim said about running with someone who might only have cb...Al

Not to hijack the thread here, but does anyone have any recommendations on particular Tried-n-True™ HAM or CB radio models?
