Your write up on the application of the liner is by far the best I’ve seen on the net. Your use of the Kilz primer, the real world experience of using the cheaper spray gun, comparison of the spray gun finish to the spray can finish, etc. are all excellent information. I bet this thread gets linked to on a lot of forums. I liked your wrench extender, but maybe not the price. So you're thinking that you slide out the slides, put a piece of plywood across the top and lay on that? While the slide could probably manage it, I'm wondering if you'd really need to beef up where you mount it to the plywood. Maybe with some metal plates. My concern would be the downwards leverage forces you apply to the slides possibly snapping a mounting screw or cracking the plywood. Alternatively, when you design your flat plywood platform, you could add a "foot" support towards the end of the platform (up near the front seats) that stabilizes the set-up and takes the leveraging strain off of the draw-slide mounting points. The "foot" or "feet" could rest on the back of the rear seat (when you have it folded down in "sleep mode"). 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

theksmith 5,778 Posted October 30, 2025 (edited) i'd been storing these 2 vertical supports for my sleep platform just tucked above the roll cage. that's worked 90% of the time, but on really rough trails, they would work their way loose. i added a bungee cord on one end to help secure them, where i could still grab them fairly easily, but they keep finding a way to fall out... so rather than devise a storage bracket to hold them in place, i decided to just cut them in half and add a short section of piano hinge so they fold up. this gives me way more options for where to store them and they still seem plenty strong when deployed. i think the fact that i keyed the platform for them to lock into helps keep them steady even with the hinge.
