Sup George,

my tj recently suffered right side sage associated with engine torque and spring arc. I bought a set off used springs to take care of this for now but I'm planning on relocating the upper buckets when I pull the tank for a new check valve / filter install.

did you have to pull the tank?

No I did not pull the tank but it would have made my work a lot easeier. With all the cutting and welding I wrapped the tank in wet towells to prevent a fire. George:cool::)

As you may have read about on 'The Squeeze Day Trip', Number sustained damage to the rear axle truss where the upper control arms attach. I was able to get the Jeep home by using ratchet straps to hold the rear axle from moving side to side. Here are some pictures of the damage:

I'm shocked to discover how thin the tube material is that makes the truss. One of the tabs that connect upper control arms to the truss is completely ripped off:

The whole truss actually twisted and bent forward before the tabs ripped out:

This is the truss, picture taken from behind looking up:

My plans are to cut the truss off and install a beefier one, I'm thinking of maybe the TnT Customs Truss. I'll have to fabricate tabs for the control arms.

George

This looks terrible. I am sitting here trying to visualize how the rear end and axle are configured in my YJ, but without much success. Anybody have any thoughts about that? Should I consider a preemptive move to avoid this? Thanks.

Not to worry Jack, your rear axle is configured NOTHING like this...

Doc, you have a custom 9inch from Currie correct? Also you have a spring under axle(SUA) suspension that is easier on the housing than a more complicated "link" setup. With the type of wheeling I have seen you do, I(although not a true automotive expert) believe this a completely capable axle and setup. The few times I have seen a leaf sprung axle get a truss, it was typically because they ran 37s or higher and did the 4-4.5-5 (on a 5 scale) trails.
