theksmith 3,667 Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) Join us on an easy to moderate loop up into the Sierra Anchas. We'll visit the well known Dupont Cabin and a semi-secret tiny cave while taking in the stellar views of Tonto Basin down below. Plan for a lunch stop in the shady pines (i.e. bring food and a chair)! The trail is primarily easy forest roads with a few rocky washes to cross where skid plates might be needed. One long steep hill with loose rocky terrain gives this trail its moderate rating. We'll run the loop clockwise so we don't have to climb that hill, which should make this run doable by most high-clearance 4x4s. Meetup: Meet at 9:30am at the Tonto Basin Marketplace (gas & groceries) on Hwy 188 Click here for map/directions... We'll roll-out when everyone is ready or 10am at the latest, please be fueled up and ready! FYI, there's no fast-food or much of anything else around this area. Requirements: A high clearance 4x4 truck or SUV with at least one suitable recovery point (i.e. front or rear tow points or a trailer hitch) Vehicles should be well maintained and must be street-legal (insurance, registration, seat belts, etc.) Skid plates and rock rails are highly recommended A good attitude! Other Important Info: Limited to 12 rigs Bring a lunch, plenty of water, a chair and your camera!
