Traction Boards Option

Recommended Posts

While perusing the interwebs I came across an interesting piece of recovery gear.  I found these compact traction boards  from GoTreads that can also double as leveling blocks if needed. They are a little more expensive than traditional traction boards but the space saving aspect is worth it IMO. I really like that they fold up and can be stored inside the rig and no exterior mod has to be done to accommodate them.  It also keeps people with sticky fingers from trying to acquire a set of exterior mounted boards.  🙂

I have a pair of these that I bought at my first Overland Expo back in 2015.  Only have had to use them once in that time.  They're ok.  They pack down nice and don't take up a lot of room.  However, they are a tad on the flimsy side.

True, they can't take the weight of a vehicle if you needed to use them as a "bridge" so to speak. 😬

Yup, but they did work nicely having a few rocks in the way that would have prevented them from laying flat.  Gave a touch of extra traction on the free wheel.

I like them enough to put them on my wish list for later on in the year. My reasoning being I need something eventually, Bonus is there's an Australian dude endorsing them on their website. We all we know crazy those offroaders are out there! 🤣

Even if I buy a set of MaxTrax, which I plan on doing at Expo this year, I will still keep the GoTreads in the Jeep for other situations

Looking at buying some traction boards, but a lot of the online reviews seem to be from people that haven't even used them yet just saying "these look good" or "these look flimsy."

Are the MaxTrax or ARB worth double the price of what most of the others are? Both have great reviews from people using them but theres others out there like RototraX are $150.

Hmm I like the GoTreads one in the first post, small enough to just leave in the back trunk in case I need some extra traction.

We used our GoTreads this weekend to make our RV level.  We weigh 43,000 pounds and they didn't break!! Hopefully won't need to use ever for actually getting stuck but I can vouch that they are tough.

Nice,  I saw on their website they are rated to 50,000 lbs.  Which is kind of hard to believe with hinges.

Just came across this "new" option for traction boards from Bunker.

At only $80, they're comparable in price to the X-Bulls I have - however they look a lot more flexible/durable and stack a heck of a lot cleaner than the X-Bulls I run today. I could probably stack 4 of these into less space than my current double-stack of X-Bulls.

They also have some clever features, like the integrated hi-lift base indent to help secure your jack base when lifting a vehicle.

Amazon Link - here's another Amazon link to a different model (as in the video below)

Here's a great review and torture test of the Bunker traction mats.
